Those who are scared of clowns may not want to leave the house next spring if the makeup on show at Gareth Pugh's London Fashion Week catwalk takes off.

The models on the catwalk at the Spring/Summer 16 show looked more like mannequins than human beings with painted on eyes and receding clown wigs.

It was impossible to identify any of the models as their faces had been covered in gauze, which was painted on by MAC makeup artists, who covered the women's faces in large stars, beauty spots and exaggerated rosebud lips.

Speaking to WWD, MAC’s Val Garland explained that the vibe was inspired by "Donna Summer juxtaposed with Lindsay Kemp and a bit of drag queen Divine," with a “schizo disco, plastic pulp, Soho sex club,” vibe.

At the Gareth Pugh show the models' skin was prepped with MAC Pro Longwear Waterproof Foundation and Mineralise Foundation, before being covered with a nylon stocking.

Eyelids were painted on with slashes of MAC Acrylic Paint in Marine Ultra and brows were drawn in Rapid Black Penultimate Eye Liner with black acrylic paint on top. Lips were also painted in acrylic paint.
