We had wondered how on earth H&M were going to outdo the stupendous fashion collaboration that was Alexander Wang, but they've knocked it out of the park with Balmain.

The fashion line will hit stores on 5 November.

Olivier Rousteing, one of the industry's best fashion designers du jour, announced it last night at the Billboard Music Awards 2015, with the best advertising possible - Jourdan Dunn and Kendall Jenner hanging off his arm.

Wearing Balmain, a'course.

olivier rousteing

"H&M allows me the unique possibility of bringing everyone into the world of Balmain," he said, "getting a piece of the dream and creating a global #HMBalmaination: a movement of togetherness, fuelled on a hashtag. The collaboration felt extremely natural to me as H&M is a brand that everybody connects to. It calls for unity, and I am all for it."

H&M's fashion collaborations have managed to straddle the worlds of high street and high fashion effortlessly, making them the hottest shopping events of the year. Previous partnerships include Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney and Donatella Versace.

"We are excited to have Balmain as our guest designer at H&M and to create a truly involving experience for everybody," Ann-Sofie Johansson, creative advisor at H&M.

"With its mix of couture spirit and streetwear attitude, Balmain owns a unique style; opulent and direct, sensual and energetic. It is also closely linked to the entertainment and music worlds, which adds another element of surprise."

Yes, that all sounds very elegant and sophisticated. However, as H&M fashion collaborations are fight fests with queues around the corner and handbags at dawn, book your day off work NOW.

Madeline has her mother, Rosanne, to thank for instilling such a positive spirit. Speaking to Buzzfeed Life, Rosanne, explains that she's always encouraged her daughter and protected her from criticism.

"I remember having her in a [stroller] when she was a baby and small-minded people telling me she should not be out in public," she says. "Her doctors told me she would never achieve anything."

Now, the mother-daughter duo have a message for the world.

"People with Down's Syndrome can do anything. They just do it at their own pace," Rosanne continued. "Give them a chance and you will be rewarded beyond your greatest expectations."

Would I Suit A Short Hair Cut? The 2.25 Rule Can Help You Decide

$

Ever headed to the hairdressers determined that this time you will finally get a pixie cut or WOB, only to chicken out at the last moment?

We know we certainly have. Going for a dramatically different hairstyle is a big decision, especially if you are unsure it will suit your face shape - trust us, we've tried using hair pins to fake a shorter look and it just doesn't work.

But John Frieda claims to have come up with a simple formula, called the 2.25 rule, that will tell you in an instant if a short style will work well for you.

short hair

Speaking about the measurement discovered by his boss, Giles Robinson, international training director of Color Wow and senior stylist at John Frieda Salons UK, said:

"It's all about angles. John studied faces and saw that the angle of the jaw bone determined whether or not someone would look best with short hair or long hair. He figured out an exact, easy to understand measurement that clearly indicates whether a face is suited to long hair or short hair."

And you won't need to visit a hair salon to try out the 2.25 rule for yourself. All you need is a pencil and a ruler.

Place the pencil under your chin horizontally. Then place the ruler under your ear, vertically. The point at which the pencil and ruler meet indicates a measurement.

If that measurement is less than 2.25 inches, then like Halle Berry and Audrey Hepburn, your face is made for short hair, advises the team at John Frieda. If that measurement is more than that length, like Kim Kardashian and Sarah Jessica Parker, then long hair will be the most flattering choice.

However, when it comes to style there are no hard and fast rules. So our advice if you've been thinking about loping off your locks... go for it.

All Hail The Suitsy: Guy Wears A Suit Onesie For A Whole Week And No One Even Notices

The suitsy (a hybrid of a onesie and a suit) is completely foolproof, one journalist has discovered.

Greg Ferenstein from the Business Insider trialled wearing the adult pyjama onesie for one week to the office, as well as at a parliamentary rally.

And no one noticed.

suitsy

"I spent the last week gliding around San Francisco in the now infamous “Suitsy,” an adult-sized pajama onesie disguised as a full business suit. At bars and in meetings, no one seemed to notice anything amiss," he wrote on the Business Insider.

Ferenstein was testing whether the suitsy was a gimmick, or could actually be serious office attire. He found out the latter was true.

He wore the Suitsy to a republican rally where he was surrounded by men in suits. Did any of them notice? Nope.

"I unzipped my onesie suit and revealed the comfy glory of what I was actually wearing. Gasps of disbelief echoed around me as if Criss Angel had just made a statue of Ronald Reagan appear out of thin air. “Whaaa?! No way!” he wrote.

suitsy

The suitsy is a one-piece suit combining a shirt, trousers and a jacket and retails at £215.

Ferenstein concluded that the Suitsy gave him an improved night's sleep, and barely took it off for a working week.

"For style, the Suitsy is no match for an expensive tailored ensemble," writes Ferenstein.

"But that’s like comparing the top speed of a Ford Mustang to a Prius, when all you really want is a car to pick up milk at the grocery store. The Suitsy is meant to satisfy the bare minimum requirements, not make a statement."

The Suitsy was introduced in September on crowdfunding site, Betabrand.

They described it as "a jacket connected to a shirt connected to pants — like the lovechild of a business suit and a onesie! False shirt-cuff material extends from the end of the jacket sleeves to give the impression of a complete dress shirt worn underneath."

When wearing the suit for a week to work, Ferenstein even did a very short survey, asking which suit was preferred. The options for respondents were the suitsy, or his normal suit.

Surprisingly, 20% of respondents actually said they preferred the suitsy.

Heritage As The New Contemporary

$

A someone who isn't particularly trend focussed in my work, it's become exceedingly apparent - certainly from a business perspective - that there has been a natural inclination from the luxury and premium industries across fashion, pop art (I'll elaborate), music and automobiles to re-embrace the legitimacy, brand clout and timelessness of heritage icons.

Referencing the past and re-inventing past icons is nothing new, but recreating these successes for a 21st Century business model and audience has become something more frequent.

How is music luxury you might ask? Music isn't luxury but the creative vision behind it can be. One of these pioneers is the newly appointed Dr. Kanye West. I think we can all agree that Kanye is a brand in his own right, whether it is through his partnerships with Louis Vuitton, his creative identity, the press success (we will wait to see the sales stats, but undoubtedly these will be huge) of Yeezy Season 1 and his press persona. He has achieved this through marketing himself as an icon of timelessness - a Renaissance painting to a certain extent. When questioned recently as to why he chooses not to smile in photographs, his explanation was exactly based on this argument. The vision of himself is that of a Renaissance painting - he states that you don't walk through a Medieval castle and see portraits of people smiling. Digital is the new and only relevant medium that exists in a multi-platform capacity - art is being created digitally and represented physically now, Kim Kardashian's partnership with Rizzoli for her book SELFISH is proof in point of what art has evolved into.

From a fashion perspective, Hunter and Barbour are two brands that have seen a huge revival as British heritage brands meeting the new contemporary taste palate for fashion. The Business of Fashion recently published a piece on When Heritage Brands Become Accidental Fashion Labels focussing on the 160 year old brand Hunter's re-emergence from signature boots to ready to wear. History of the brand creates a sense of trust, and collaboration, exciting marcomms initiatives and new product development propels levels of newness. Another example is MCM (Modern Creation Munich) - the German luxury accessories brand which was bought in 2005 by Sungjoo Group, a South Korean retail business - the brand has since undergone an incredible transformation to appeal to a more premium market - retaining the historic monogram iconic logo but developing the product to a more commercial audience.

In the automotive market, the 2015 Ford Mustang is another success story in the making of heritage as the new contemporary. The car (alongside the Corvette) is undoubtedly part of the construct of the American dream. Launching finally in Europe this Summer - after 50 years, the Mustang has already exceeded expectations in pre-orders. What was a classic beast of a car featured in pop culture in over 500 films including its debut in James Bond Goldfinger, countless editorials and pretty much wholly positive brand association, it was almost a surprise that they hadn't already broken the EU market. Ford have subsequently re-envisioned the Mustang, keeping its iconic shape, gnarly and robust bumper but injected a contemporary twist of functionality creating a multi-faceted and stylishly affordable vehicle propelling a timeless icon into the future of automobiles.

What the above examples lend themselves to is the focus on the rebirth of pop culture icons. Mustang, MCM, Hunter and so on are providing the legitimacy of established heritage combined with futuristic thinking that has evolved beyond the natural trend cycle. It is re-invention in the oldest sense of the word but for a generation that trusts and believes in an icon.

Watch: How To Trim Your Own Beard At Home If You're Growing It Out

$

Something we all struggle with - how to best trim your own beard. Sure, we can splash out our hard-earned pennies on a professional barber every time it goes a bit wild, but who has the money to do that?

We thought we'd throw our fuzzy faced friends a lifeline by getting some top trimming tips from a real barber so you can keep your beard looking long, luscious, and neat rather than cutting too much off by accident or making it look patchy.

Jason from Ruffians in Covent Garden was kind enough to give us a walk-through with a particularly bushy, unkempt beard - one owned by a certain HuffPost UK writer.

I lost about a fist-sized clump of hair, but ended up with a beard that looked much nicer, fuller and even slightly longer.

before

after

When asked what you needed to prune your fuzz at home, Jason said it was simple - a beard trimmer and a comb to use as a guide.

He also said the biggest mistake people make is thinking it all needs to be the same length, cutting into the beard rather than simply shaping it.

"It's like topiary," he said. "Like pruning a tree."

Step by step

  1. Start by using your comb as a guide to remove the hair along a straight line down from where your beard meets your ear. Brush the nearby hair over that line towards your neck and trim away hairs that go over the line.

  2. Take off any excess around the underside of your beard, making it a little bit shorter than elsewhere as it meets your Adam's apple.

  3. Get a good beard line along your neck by using the top of your Adam's apple as a guide, being sure to craft a smooth curve along the base of your beard. The curve should follow the shape of your beard, not the shape of your jaw. Going in too far will make you look silly, so it can be a good idea to get it done by a barber first and then you can follow their line at home.

  4. Remove stray hairs on your cheeks, but don't go too far down and don't make it a totally straight line. It shouldn't dip beneath the crease of your lip, and it shouldn't look too fake.

  5. Use your comb as a guide to create smooth lines from your ears down to the bulk of your beard, simply shaping it straight downwards.

  6. To trim your moustache, use some small scissors to give it a good shape and trim a curve along the top of your lip if you don't want stray hairs tickling your mouth.

These Photos Of Jodie Kidd Show The Alarming Effect Sleep Deprivation Has On Your Skin

$

Sleep deprivation doesn't just hinder our ability to focus at work and put us at higher risk of anxiety and depression, it also affects our appearance.

New research reveals women who have under the recommended seven to eight hours of sleep per night are likely to have more wrinkles, spots and open pores than they would if they hit the hay early.

A group of 30 women across the UK - including supermodel Jodie Kidd - had their photos taken and their skin analysed following a night of sleeping for the recommended eight hours as part an experiment conducted by Bensons for Beds.

Participants were then asked to sleep for just six hours for the next five nights, before having tests carried out again.

jodie split
The left picture shows Jodie Kidd after eight hours of sleep. The right picture shows her after sleeping for six hours for five nights.

On average, participants' fine lines and wrinkles increased in number by a 45% after they'd skipped sleep.

Spots also increased by 13% in number and by 7% in visibility, while red areas on the skin increased by 8% and became 5% more visible.

“As a busy working mother, it is quite common that I don’t get the recommended seven to eight hours sleep per night," Kidd commented after seeing her photos.

"I have never really thought about how this might affect my skin as I have so many other priorities at the moment.

"I sometimes wear a lot of makeup on shoots so need to invest in my skincare routine. Having seen the really quite significant effects of just five nights of six hours sleep, I realise that rest is an important part of it."

The women were also asked to fill out questionnaires about their feelings before and after they had experienced sleep deprivation.

On average, they reported a 20% decline in self-esteem over the course of the study with participants saying they felt 33% less attractive at the end of the test.

"Sleep deprivation is endemic in British society, with almost half of UK people regularly sleeping for 25% less than the recommended seven to eight hours," Dr Guy Meadows, founder of The Sleep School commented.

"As the results of this study show, not only does this have serious effects on mood, cognitive ability and concentration, but also on appearance and self-esteem.

"Sleep is a time for the body to heal, renew and eliminate toxins from the skin. When sleep is reduced, so is the body’s ability to carry out these functions.

"The study showed significant results over a period of just five days, yet the reality is many people are sleeping in this manner for weeks, months and even years, leading to long term consequences for their looks and how they feel about themselves.”

With women in the UK spending £8.9 billion pounds per year on beauty and skincare products, it looks like a more most effective and cost-efficient method to looking after your skin and wellbeing could just be sleep.

Beyoncé and Nicki Minaj's Feeling Myself video dropped last night completely out of the blue and caused a bit of a stir on the internet.

Premiering on the Jay-Z owned music streaming service TIDAL, the video sees BFFs Beyoncé and Nicki hit the desert and have tons of fun as they party at Coachella, eat burgers and host a champagne-fuelled pool party.

As expected, the fashion looks are fierce - from Moschino swimsuits and American football jerseys, to pastel pink furry numbers and a serious revival of door knocker earrings.

We have a feeling (excuse the pun) that the track, featuring on Nicki's album The Pinkprint, is set to be a summer anthem so take some inspo from our favourite style moments:

Kylie Jenner makeup tutorials are going to be an actual thing and we really can't wait.

The 17-year-old took to Twitter in February to make the announcement, but no further info was released.

Luckily, her fans seem to be as impatient as us and Kylie responded to one user confirming the makeup tutorial videos will be with us in about one month.

In an interview with beauty vloggers Pixiwoo, Kim Kardashian revealed she was envious of her sister's skills and that Kylie often does her own makeup for red carpet events.

With every product she mentions selling out, and thousands of fans already trying to re-create her look with their own beauty tutorials on YouTube, we predict this new business venture will be a success.

But what exactly will Kylie's official videos entail? We took a look through her Instagram to steal her beauty secrets:

According to Kim, Kylie favours lip liners over lipsticks and glosses - using them to pencil in her whole pout. Her best-loved shades are MAC's Soar and Spice.

In March, Kylie was announced as an ambassador of Nip + Fab after sharing a number of snaps featuring the beauty brand's skincare ranges.

Lady Gaga has asked Vera Wang to design her wedding dress.

The Bad Romance singer, who has given herself a stylishly understated new makeover as of late, reportedly enlisted the acclaimed bridal designer to create a one-of-a-kind gown for her big day.

A source told Life & Style magazine: ''She trusts Vera to create an elegant, flowy dress that will fit into her dream wedding!''

Along with her haute couture lines, Vera Wang has previously designed custom-made dresses for a number of other celebrities, including Victoria Beckham, Kim Kardashian and Mariah Carey.

Life & Style mag also reported that the 29-year-old hitmaker will wed 33-year-old fiancé Taylor Kinney in a relaxed beach wedding this summer at her $23 million Malibu mansion, with pal Tony Bennett in attendance to sing their collaboration Cheek To Cheek.

The couple met on the set of Gaga's You & I music video (where he played the mad scientist captor to her refugee mermaid) and got engaged this Valentine's Day after four years of dating.

Cannes 2015: Women 'Thrown Off Red Carpet' For Wearing Flat Shoes

$

The humble flat shoe was said to be having a fashion moment this year, but apparently not everyone is a fan.

Cannes Film Festival came under fire today after reports surfaced that women were being thrown off the red carpet for not wearing heels.

The women (some of whom were said to be older with medical conditions) were attending the world premiere of Cate Blanchett's new film Carol.

Screen Daily first broke the story, stating that the festival had confirmed heels were obligatory for women at red carpet screenings.

The publication reported that a "Cannes regular" told them how a woman wearing Rhinestone-encrusted flat shoes was denied entry.

The unnamed source said: "Someone I know was turned away for wearing nice flats, nothing you would wear to the beach. They were in their 50s. They told her she could go and buy appropriate shoes and come back."

A spokesperson for Cannes Film Festival told The Huffington Post UK: "There is no specific mention about the height of women's heels."

They also confirmed that the festival's hosts and hostesses were being reminded of this rule.

The topic is now being discussed on Twitter under the hashtag #heelgate, with many users outrages at how the women were treated.

Ahead of the festival Cannes organisers said it had made efforts to address the gender imbalance between male and female directors.

They selected French director Emmanuelle Bercot's drama La Tete Haute to open the festival and hosted a UN conference into equality on the red carpet.

"I think it’s a hoot that, at my age, people are calling me a fashion icon”, Fonda told W magazine, following on to discuss her Oscar-winning movie roles, high-profile marriages and views on aging.

On being a fashion icon: “Truthfully, my relationship to fashion has always been strained. When I was starting out as an actress in New York, I worked as a model because I needed to pay for acting classes. But I didn’t have what it took to be a model. I hated all the emphasis on how I looked, and I never paid much attention to clothes.”

On beginning a new phase in her life and career: “I realised I didn’t have a lot of time left, and I wanted to pay more attention.”

“I had a vision: I wanted to give a cultural face to older women. I did have plastic surgery. I’m not proud of the fact that I’ve had it. But I grew up so defined by my looks. I was taught to think that if I wanted to be loved, I had to be thin and pretty. That leads to a lot of trouble.”

On the Balmain jumpsuit she wore at the Grammy Awards this past February: “I suppose I’ve always known what I like on my body.” “I took one look at that Balmain jumpsuit, and I said, ‘That’s it!’"

"I’m best when I’m wearing something structured, with no frills or bows. Something that will show my waist and bum, because I’ve always had a good bum.”

Philip Kingsley Elasticizer Reviews: If It's Good Enough For Audrey Hepburn...

"A woman's hair is her crowning glory" is a phrase we should all remember, so if you don't want the rest of your life to be as emotionally devastating as Britney's 2007, take heed and look after your hair.

Luckily, one of Britain's most iconic haircare brands Philip Kingsley is here to help - and if you aren't already a devotee, this might just manage to convert you.

Turns out none other than Audrey Hepburn was a loyal fan and... wait for it... our favourite product from the range was actually invented specifically for her!

Philip Kingsley Elasticizer, £29

Anyone who's been bleached or highlighted within an inch of their life has heard it before - condition, condition. condition. Condition like it's going out of style. Condition like the conditioner just killed your entire family and the only way to get revenge is to condition your hair more. Use two conditioners!

But what if there was another way?

Loved by bloggers and celebrities alike, Philip Kingsley's Elasticizer is the world's first pre-shampoo conditioning treatment (and one that deserves its place in any beauty junkie's hall of fame).

A saviour for dry and damaged hair, Elasticizer works by delivering a rush of intense moisture to the cuticle - leaving your locks supple and bouncy, without weighing them down.

Once a week, simply apply to wet hair, pop on the plastic shower cap and leave for 20 minutes before following with your normal hair washing routine.

Philip Kingsley have also just released the new Geranium & Neroli Elasticizer (£31.50), infused with natural neroli, geranium, lavender, rose and orange oils, so your hair can smell as good as it looks!

US Glamour magazine discovered the brand's amazing history when they spoke to Philip Kingsley's daughter Anabel, hair care expert and trichologist-in-training herself: "Audrey came to see Philip in 1974. She was doing a lot of filming and her hair was in terrible condition because of all the styling and coloring they were doing on set.

"So she went to see him and requested a moisturising treatment that wasn't going to weigh her hair down, as she had quite fine hair. They were using all these heavy creams post-shampoo and her hair was just flat."

Audrey wanted a product to get her hair in better condition and give it more body so Philip went straight to his laboratory in London's East End and formulated Elasticizer just for her.

The Breakfast at Tiffany's star loved it so much, she ordered pots and pots to be sent over to her home in Switzerland - and seeing it's success, Philip brought it out as a permanent product in his haircare range.

Well if it's good enough for Audrey...

The mascara's unique starfish-shaped brush design features a fraction of the rows of bristles found on a conventional mascara wand, allowing for excess formula to remain between the rows and coat lashes from root to tip - with no clumping.

It's PowerPlumped™ formula also boasts unbeatable volumising and curling properties and is completely Sulfate and Paraben-free.

At the time of publication, the Triple Black shade has already sold out! Judging by the results below, we can totally see why.

Now with creative director Olivia Palermo at the helm, their latest offering looks set to confirm Ciaté as a favourite amongst the style-set.
