HuffPost UK Style spoke to last year's winner Grace Weller about her time in the competition:

What did you enjoy most about taking part in Graduate Fashion Week 2014?

“I loved taking part in Graduate Fashion Week - it was great to have a look around the other universities' work and the diversity and creativity amongst the students was truly amazing.

"I managed to see a few of the different shows as well which was exciting.

"Winning was such a surreal experience – it has opened doors to so many more opportunities since, and has been a great platform for me to promote my work.

"Most importantly it gave me confidence and belief in my ability to take the next step in my career.

"Since GFW 2014, I have started the Fashion MA course at Central Saint Martins so have been experimenting with embroidery and textiles following on from my BA collection.

"I have been given complete freedom to explore different techniques and ideas so it has been an inspiring and rewarding year."

What would be your advice to students taking part in the event this year?

"There are some amazing people from the industry around so make sure you make an effort to really promote your work to everyone - you never know who you might end up talking to and where it could lead!"

Melissa McCarthy Plus Size Line: 'People Don't Stop At Size 12'

She's one of Hollywood's funniest actresses, but Melissa McCarthy takes body shaming seriously.

The actress recently spoke out about the frustrations of shopping as a plus size woman and is now launching her own clothing line to combat the problems she has faced.

melissa mccarthy
Melissa McCarthy at the Spy premiere in London on Wednesday

"People don’t stop at size 12 (a UK size 14). I feel like there’s a big thing missing where you can’t dress to your mood above a certain number. [Malls] segregate plus-size," McCarthy told More magazine.

"It’s an odd thing that you can’t go shopping with your friends because your store is upstairs hidden by the tire section. 'We’ll put you gals over there because we don’t want to see you and you probably don’t want to be seen.'"

After learning that she would appear at the Oscars, McCarthy said several well known designers refused to dress her. Now, the hands-on designer will deliver her first line in August - a mix of 80 different pieces in US sizes 4 to 28.

And she's not the only silver screen star to venture into the plus size market - Pitch Perfect actress Rebel Wilson also recently announced her fashion collaboration with Torrid, due to launch around the holiday season later this year.

Kate Moss And Cara Delevingne Team Up Again For New Mango Ad

Last September, two of Britain's most famous models, Kate Moss and Cara Delevingne, posed together for the first time as the stars of the My Burberry fragrance - and now, they're at it again.

Spanish fashion retailer Mango have brought the duo back together for their new autumn/winter 2015 collection, which will include both print ads and TV spots, shot by Inez and Vinoodh.

Mango took to Instagram yesterday to make the announcement alongside this preview of the supermodels' shoot, captioning the photo: "Big announcement: Two outstanding fashion icons @caradelevingne and #KateMoss star together in our new #MANGO Autumn/Winter 2015 campaign. #somethingincommon".

Delevingne also shared the image with her 13m Instagram followers yesterday, posting "Everything is fun when Miss Moss is around," having posted this teaser video a few days earlier.

Guess who I have #somethingincommon with in my new @Mango campaign…

A video posted by Cara Delevingne (@caradelevingne) on

The concept for the campaign is #somethingincommon — alluding to Moss and Delevingne's parallel careers as models, muses, designers and entertainers.

Whereas Moss was the face of the label in 2011 and 2012, this is Delevingne's first time shooting for Mango and we can't wait to see what they get up to.

The Mango #somethingincommon campaign will be officially released in September.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley has been making headlines for her new feminist flick Mad Max: Fury Road, but we also can't stop talking about her latest lingerie line for Marks and Spencer.

The new Rosie for Autograph collection, designed by the supermodel herself, is as beautiful as ever - featuring Rosie's signature vintage-style designs (including her much-loved cami & short combo - they're back and better than ever).

Made from the softest silk and French lace, the summer range encompasses delicate florals and tropical hues across lingerie separates and sleepwear.

The gorgeous floral hibiscus print fabric was apparently inspired by Rosie’s recent warm-weather vacation: "Travelling is always a huge source of inspiration for me," she said.

"My recent trip to Hawaii really helped develop ideas for the summer Rosie for Autograph Lilani collection. We worked on a gorgeous vibrant colour palette and combined this with exotic Hawaiian floral prints.

"The floral cami set is one of my favourite pieces, I can’t wait to pack it on my next trip."

Soozie Jenkinson, head of lingerie design for M&S added: "The colours of vibrant coral and zesty lime, will look great on sun-kissed skin."

And we totally agree - these new pieces are perfect for packing on your summer holidays.

Bra sizes range from 30-40, with cup-sizes from A to E and selected styles available up to G. Knickers and sleepwear sizes are available from 8 to 20.

Rosie recently revealed she thinks of her lingerie shoots as a feminist statement, touching on her beliefs in an interview with HuffPost Live.

She explained: ""I've been lucky in my career. Modeling is kind of a female's world, and I feel very lucky for that."

"I never felt too many limitations in that industry, but it's certainly something you think about more and more and it's certainly something we're seeing more and more in the media."

"For me, I would totally, comfortably call myself a feminist. I believe in equal rights and for women to do what they want to do."

How Often Should You Wash Your Makeup Brushes? Expert Advice

$
0
0
Your best beauty tool may be your skin’s worst enemy - according to a new survey, only 61 percent of women are cleaning their makeup brushes once a month, if at all.

The survey, conducted by Harris Poll on behalf of Anisa International (a global leader in beauty tool design), discovered women are sort of cleaning their makeup brushes, but not as much as they need to.

Almost two fifths (39%) of women cleaned their brushes less than once a month, with 22% admitting to never cleaning them at all.

makeup brush

The most common reasons why? Lack of time and lack of know-how (one in five women in the survey weren't even aware brushes needed cleaning).

“Today’s consumers are spending a significant amount on cosmetic brushes in order to achieve desired makeup looks, but they’re not protecting their investment or their skin by properly caring for these tools,” said Anisa Telwar-Kaicker, founder and CEO of Anisa International.

"Interestingly, 65% of women who clean their brushes do so to avoid bacteria, breakouts and blemishes. They understand the consequences, but they still don’t clean them as often as beauty experts recommend."

So how often should you be doing it?

MAC makeup artist Belle Jorden tells Huff Post UK Style she advises spot cleaning after every couple of uses, and giving them a deep cleanse every 2-4 weeks.

Fake Makeup Could Contain Rat Poo, Urine Or Arsenic

Follow Belle's simple how-to guide for perfectly clean brushes:

1. Every couple of uses I would use a brush cleaner spray on kitchen roll to spot clean and sanitise the brushes.

Brush cleaner dries instantly so it's quick and easy and you can clean the brushes as you're using them.

For foundation brushes you can also add a little facial cleansing oil to break down stubborn product.

2. For deep cleaning I would recommend this every two to four weeks. Do it at night so that the brushes have time to dry.

The easiest way is to use the palm of your hand, pour some baby soap into your palm and swirl the brush around and massage it with your fingers until the makeup breaks down.

Hold the brush upright because you don't want water to drip down the ferrule and damage your brushes.

3. To let your brushes dry, do not stand them upright in a pot. Lay them on their side on the edge of a worktop.

Sometimes washing can change the shape of the brush so use your hands to gently fix back into place.

In the morning your brushes will look and smell clean and makeup application always looks better when using clean brushes.

Chanel au Ritz Paris: Will This Be The World's Most Fashionable Spa?

Coco Chanel once said "Le Ritz est ma maison" - and it seems the hotel is still playing host to the luxury fashion house, who have just announced plans to open their very own spa in the Paris branch.

The beauty sanctuary, named Chanel au Ritz Paris, will open its doors later this year in line with the Ritz Paris' grand reopening.

The five-star hotel has been closed since July 2012 for an extensive renovation project, and we can only imagine how stunning it will look (anywhere Ms Chanel lived for 34 years has got to have some serious style credentials).

chanel spa

An official statement from Chanel read: “The story linking Chanel and the Ritz Paris would not be complete without the opening of a new Coco Chanel suite inspired by the one she originally occupied and by the decor she loved so much.”

The spa is expected to feature a range of signature treatments using Chanel's famous beauty products, but it has not been confirmed as to whether the spa is likely to open at any of the hotel's other branches.

Fingers crossed the London Ritz gets in on this ASAP.

Plus Size Lingerie Could Be A Thing Of The Past Thanks To Cosabella 'Extended' Sizes

$

The #DropThePlus social media campaign seems to be finally making an impact on the fashion industry - with one lingerie brand refusing to call its new range 'plus size'.

Family-owned Italian label Cosabella is one of the first brands to drop the 'plus' in its larger-sized styles, naming their new range 'Extended' instead.

cosabella extended

Cosabella CEO, Guido Campello, told HuffPost UK Style: "High customer demands to extend the sizing of our best-selling collections lead to the creation of Cosabella Extended.

"We took the time and effort to design a product that will meet the needs of our customers."

The new line features some of the brand's most popular styles in sizes 32-36 D, DD-G and 38 D, DD-F, along with knickers in sizes 12/14, 16/18, 20/22.

It also includes bigger cuts and styles of bralettes, thongs and boy shorts in lace, satin and cotton.

Extended items are created using the same fabric and colors of Cosabella’s core collections, so customers are able to mix and match the range (great news for those with big busts but small hips).

cosabella

To help further celebrate body diversity, the lingerie label launched a campaign with plus-size model Emily Nolan, who runs non-profit organisation Topless - an event helping to promote self-confidence and body-empowerment.

Select items from the Cosabella Extended range are available now at cosabella.com, with the full range landing in June. 20% of the profits made between 29 May - 1 July will go to the Topless organisation.

Magical colour changing hair dye might actually be a thing if this new video is anything to go by...

Uploaded to YouTube last week, the clip shows 24-year-old Florida-based vlogger Sabrina Abu-Obeid's hair appear to mysteriously change colour as she walks around her house.

We know pastel hair is the height of style right now, but this video is seriously blowing our minds - and Sabrina's boyfriend's too (he decided to capture it on camera after noticing the colour change before his very eyes).

First it was purple....

Then in the blink of an eye it was pink!

It may just be a trick of the light, but this is seriously freaking us out (and we kind of want it too).

'Rolls, Curves, Cellulite... I Love Every Part Of Me': Ashley Graham's TEDTalk Can Teach The World A Lot About Body Confidence

$

It's not often you hear a woman stand in front of a mirror and compliment her own appearance, but that's exactly what happened when model and body image activist Ashley Graham took to the stage to deliver an inspiring TEDTalk on body confidence, the power of self-acceptance and why she rejects the term "plus size".

Standing in front of a full-length mirror on stage she said to herself: "You are bold, you are brilliant and you are beautiful. There is no other woman like you."

But she didn't stop there. While most women are preconditioned to berate their reflection, Graham has nothing but good things to say about her appearance.

"Back fat? I see you popping over my bra today, but that's alright I'm going to choose to love you. And think thighs? You are just so sexy you can't stop rubbing each other. That's alright. I'm going to keep you," she added.

"And cellulite, I have not forgotten about you. I'm going to choose to love you even though you want to take over my whole bottom half. You're a part of me and I love you."

But Graham hasn't always been so comfortable in her own skin.

Growing up in Nebraska, she was known as "the fat model - the girl who was pretty for a 'big girl'". She says that people would raise their eyebrows when she told them she was a model and her confidence was knocked.

"I would go home and stand in front of the mirror and only hate what I saw," she admits. “My body, like my confidence, has been picked apart, manipulated and controlled by others who didn’t necessarily understand it.”

It was only when she started defining her own beauty, independent of society's restrictions, that she learnt to accept herself.

"I felt free once I realised I was never going to fit the narrow mould that society wanted me to fit in. I was never going to be 'perfect enough' for an industry that defines perfection from the outside in."

As a result, Graham is critical of the use of the term "plus size". She notes that in the US, the term "plus size" relates to any model between a US size 8-16, the equivalent of 12-20 in UK, which she rightly points out includes a lot of women.

"The fashion industry might persist to label me as 'plus size', but I like to think of it as 'my size'," she said.

Well said.

Ms Wright's wedding look was completed with a pair of Terry De Havilland platform shoes which had her new initials - MW - in diamond on the soles.

"She looked so amazing. Her wedding dress was just perfect," the groom told HELLO!.

Keeping with tradition Ms Wright had something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue.

The blue was perfume Blue by Oscar De La Renta, the old was her mum's blue garter from her wedding day, the new her wedding dress and the borrowed was a pair of diamond earrings from Amrapali.

Mr Wright opted for a black tuexdo by Stephen Williams - he admitted to HELLO!: " We don't want to look back at photos in 20 years time and wish we had gone classic.

"With the black tux, white shirt and black bow ties, it will always look slick"

On her HELLO! magazine blog, Ms Wright revealed her beauty regime leading up to the big day, along with tips for long-lasting wedding makeup.

One of her go-to makeup artists, Collette Casey, said: “Layering your products helps it last all day for example, try using a cream blusher underneath your powder blush or a cream eyeshadow before your powder eyeshadow – layering the products will help your makeup last longer.

She also recommends using a light mist of Urban Decay setting spray to ensure makeup looks picture perfect day to night.

The rapper-turned-designer took center stage once again on Friday, but this time to encourage young fashion designers to pursue their dreams.

Speaking to graduates at the Los Angeles Trade Technical College, he said: “I’m really honored to be here tonight around so many creative people."

The speech was West's second engagement at the prestigious school, having taught a fashion course in September 2014 as part of a community service order for attacking a paparazzo.

"I have always had to fight to be accepted," West said. "Even as a successful musician, in order to make the transition it was really all but impossible.

"When kids tell their parents that they want to be a fashion designer, it’s not usually met with the same response as the traditionally held career choices."

The eight-minute speech was neither as formal nor as long as West's lecture at Oxford University earlier this year, but he still managed to pack in some typical Kanye wisdom.

He ended the speech: "When you’re the absolute best you get hated on the most. Never stop fighting. No matter what anyone says.

"No matter how they try to compromise you, compromise your vision.

"If it’s in your gut, if it’s in your soul, there’s no worldly possession that should come between you and your expression."

"That’s all."
