Olsen Twins' Label The Row Faces Intern Lawsuit: Interns Share Their Experiences Of The Fashion Industry

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's company Dualstar is reportedly being sued by a group of almost 40 interns.

The current and former interns - who were all unpaid - are said to have sided together to launch a claim against the clothing label The Row for alleged wage theft.

Former design intern Shahista Lalani also claims she had to be hospitalised due to tough working conditions, including 50-hour weeks and having to respond to emails at all hours of the day and night.

olsen twins the row

According to court papers obtained by Page Six Lalani claims that her manager at The Row was "very demanding" and that she was given the workload of three interns, rarely getting a 15-minute break and often crying on the job.

However, she had kinder words for the Olsen twins, whom she never worked directly for, but saw on occasion at meetings.

"They're really nice people," she said. "They were never mean to anyone. They're business people."

Dualstar have denied the claims in a statement to USA Today: "As an initial matter, Dualstar is an organisation that is committed to treating all individuals fairly and in accordance with all applicable laws.

"The allegations in the complaint filed against Dualstar are groundless, and Dualstar will vigorously defend itself against plaintiff's claims in court, not before the media.

"Dualstar is confident that once the true facts of this case are revealed, the lawsuit will be dismissed in its entirety."

In light of the lawsuit, the treatment of unpaid interns within the fashion industry has become a much publicised topic.

HuffPost UK Style spoke to two former fashion interns, who live and work in London, about their own experiences.

Sophie* is a 23-year-old fashion promotion graduate who found she was "taken advantage of" in her early internships.

"I often wasn't paid at all, not even travel expenses. My input massively contributed to the exposure, expansion and income of the brand, but I was actually out of pocket each day," she said of her time at a well-known shoe brand.

"At another small fashion brand I was given the title of PA to the creative director, where I worked 12-hour days without more than a 20-minute break because I was so busy. For this I was paid £200 a month."

Alice*, a 26-year-old fashion graduate, also revealed the poor treatment she endured during an unpaid placement with a major company.

"I worked incredibly long hours but was often asked to wait around for even longer when I'd finished 'in case someone needs something'," she said.

"Being unpaid meant I hardly had a life anyway, which I think is why they do it - they know you don't need to leave because you have no money to do anything else."

She went on to describe how her boss often made her do tasks unrelated to the business, like shopping for her family members' birthday presents and doing her shopping.

"Interns typically have no experience outside that role so often don't see how badly they're being treated," she said.

"I remember once all the managers got taxis to make deliveries and made us walk in the snow."

fashion industry

Although the way she was treated often left her feeling "frustrated", Alice doesn't regret her time as an intern.

"Having the big brand name on my CV helped get my foot in the door after so I personally think there is value in them," she said of unpaid internships.

But with young graduates facing no other choice than to work for free, companies have the power to treat them however they wish.

'Make Do and Mend' - Just Another Trend?

$

We're living in cookie cutter times. We all wear the same clothes, mass-produced for the same stores, we drive samey-samey, personality-free cars and are we're slaves to our smartphones that are virtually identical in terms of functionality and aesthetic. Very little is unique anymore. Restore to factory settings.

Choosing Cath Kidston et al, or our favourite band tee (from Primark, natch) might allow us to feel like we're expressing ourselves but the reality is that every High Street in the UK looks and feels the same. Drop you in blindfolded and you could be anywhere. We're all consuming the same goods. Individuality is in short supply. It's understandable that in these circumstances, our need to express our creativity and personalities can be overwhelming.

The cool kids are shunning the bland ambiguity, and are embracing recycling and up-cycling as a fashion led way to express their individuality, whilst appealing to their social conscious.

2015-08-10-1439247032-5553776-GoThroughYourWardrobeMakeDoandMendposter004773.jpg

Not only does making good and mend - refashioning what's already in existence - fulfil us creatively, it's also economically, socially and environmentally beneficial. In 2012 almost 14.3million tons of textiles were send to landfills. Huge deliveries of used fabrics and clothes are shipped to developing countries, inundating them with cheap and often unnecessary textiles that stifle emerging local economic development in textiles. It is certainly far more eco-friendly on a many number of levels, to give your existing wardrobe a bespoke makeover than to commit to the bin or charity shop without a second thought.

Make Do and Mend obviously isn't a new concept. It was a pamphlet issued by the British Ministry of Information in the midst of WW2, to provide housewives with useful tips on how to be both frugal and stylish in times of harsh rationing. With its thrifty design ideas and advice on reusing old clothing, the pamphlet was an indispensable guide for households. Readers were advised to create pretty 'decorative patches' to cover holes in warn garments; unpick old jumpers to re-knit chic alternatives; turn men's clothes into women's; as well as darn, alter and protect against the 'moth menace'. An updated version of the book was recently released to coincide with the economic recession, offering similar frugal advice for 21st Century families.

In our throwaway society, with cheap, pretty tee-shirts that cost less than a loaf of bread, we're so far removed from the challenges faced by our war time sisters in terms of looking polished and fashionable, however that doesn't mean that we shouldn't employ their tenacity for looking good on a budget. We may ask ourselves why we'd upgrade or mend a frock when you can simply chuck it away and buy a new one as you do your weekly food shop. Particularly as we all lead such busy, stressful, time poor lives. But as consumers are realising the devastating effects of fast fashion they are beginning to look for innovative ways to change their wardrobe, and express their individuality. Upcycled apparel can be a part of this revolution - helping people make meaningful choices with their clothing.

Scientist Unveils 'Wireless Armour' Underwear That Can Protect Men's Sperm From Harmful WiFi Signals

A scientist has unveiled a range of underwear that can protect men's sperm from the harmful affects of exposure to WiFi and mobile signals.

Heralded by Richard Branson himself as the “underpants for superheroes”, the Wireless Armour boxers use an innovative new technique in the construction of the fabric.

wirelessarmour
The boxers use an innovative silver weave to protect against harmful radiation.

Almost all men carry a smartphone in their pocket and an almost equal amount have rested a laptop on their lap, well it turns out that's not so good for your fertility.

The 'Wireless Armour' boxers solve this problem by being constructed from a silver weave mesh which, according to its creator Joseph Perkins, protects a man from 99.99 per cent of the harmful electromagnetic radiation (EMR) that these devices create.

Perkins agrees that while current research is still inconclusive, the fact remains that over 70 million couples are affected by fertility issues around the world.

SEE ALSO:

This combined with there being a strong correlation between EMR and sperm count decreases suggests that ultimately we either need to stop using our phones, or find a way to protect ourselves.

It turns out there are some added advantages to using silver as well - because the silver weave makes up 35 per cent of the boxers they're highly anti-microbial which makes them far more hygienic than your average pair of boxers.

Beyoncé's latest Vogue cover was leaked online by a fan account on Wednesday, a day before the magazine officially debuted the cover on Instagram.

The iconic September issue shows the pop star looking stunning with wet-look hair in a Marc Jacobs dress.

At first we weren't sure if it was the real deal or just the impeccable photoshop skills of a crazed Bey fan, but we're so happy it's legit as the photo spread inside will be to die for.

The snap of Bey's cover was first posted on Twitter and spread like wildfire around the internet, but it's currently unclear who is responsible for the leak.

Whoever it was, it looks like the leaking culprit snuck away into some sort of deserted woodland to take the snap. OR a park very near the Vogue offices....

Above is the Google Maps Street View shot of a park only minutes away from the Vogue offices (note the dark, twig-y areas of ground similar to the background in the leaked shot).

While we're waiting to see Mrs Carter's new shoot in full, let's look back at Mrs Carter's impressive Vogue cover history:

Victoria Beckham Takes The Minion Makeover To The Next Level

Victoria Beckham has had to work hard to earn her fashion stripes.

The former Spice Girl has spent years shaking off her girl band image to be taken seriously as a fashion designer - and it seems her hard work has paid off as she is now secure enough in her role as fashionista to be free to have more fun with her style...

By slipping into a Minion onesie.

What can I say? I was inspired x vb #Minions

A photo posted by Victoria Beckham (@victoriabeckham) on

Beckham kept her face covered for the photo - presumably to keep her smile under wraps.

Beckham's minion makeover was inspired by a cartoon image of her as a Minion created by the team behind online fashion retailer Stylight .

Other fashion stars included in the Minionista series included Cara Delevingne and Alexa Chung.

It is no secret that Beckham's daughter Harper is a big fan of the Minions as she was previously responsible for inspiring her dad to add a rather yellow tattoo to his collection of inkings.

Victoria's Secret Model Stella Maxwell Reveals Beauty Tips And What It's Really Like Being An Angel

Since being announced as a new Victoria's Secret Angel earlier this year, Stella Maxwell's star has skyrocketed.

She has caught the eye of Miley Cyrus, who she is reportedly dating, along with scoring huge campaigns for the likes of Alexander McQueen and H&M.

HuffPost UK Style joined the British-born model, who's currently in town to celebrate the Body by Victoria collection, to talk everything from beauty tips, her favourite London café (Cream in Shoreditch fyi), and what it's really like being an Angel...

stella maxwell
Stella Maxwell poses at the Bond Street Victoria's Secret store in London on Wednesday

What's the biggest misconception about Victoria's Secret models?

There’s nothing negative about any of us. The reality is we all get along and we have a great time shooting. All 10 of the new angels just shot a campaign together and it was the first time we all got to hang out.

We all made a speech and got welcomed into the family, it was a special day because everyone was stoked to be there.

The fashion shows must get pretty crazy backstage?

It's always very busy and everyone is concentrating on doing their job. One of the most rushed parts is getting changed in between your outfits - you’ll have this huge adrenaline rush after your first look then have to quickly change straight into your next one.

You're so hyped on all the excitement and you're already amped. But nothing has ever gone wrong - they're pretty organised so they have it all put together.

stella maxwell fashion show

Have the other Angels been sharing their beauty tips with you?

We've been using the new Victoria's Secret skin line - the scrub in particular. I love a good scrub, especially on my face. I like to scrub everything down because I've usually got so much makeup and body makeup and products on. I have to shower every day.

How do you stay looking your best?

I keep it kind of classic - drink a lot of water, get a lot of sleep, eat well. If your diet is good, it definitely helps your skin. A lot of sun kind of helps too, I love being outside in the sun - a little vitamin D goes a long way.

stella maxwell

Can you share the secret of how the Angels get their glow?

Victoria's Secret have an instant bronzing gel, that's what they use on all our shoots. That’s what the secret is!

They put more on your arms and chest and contour it so it looks amazing when it hits the light - it shimmers.

The new Body by Victoria range is incredibly sexy. When do you feel at your sexiest?

In underwear you cant help but feel super sexy, especially the line I’ve been shooting for Victoria’s Secret - it’s been the sexiest underwear I've ever worn. They always know what a woman would want.

I don’t really like to show I'm wearing a bra under anything I'm wearing. These new styles are more casual and comfortable - but still sexy when you take off your top.

Lime Crime Velvetines Get FDA Warning For 'Unsafe' Lipstick Ingredients

Lime Crime's Velvetine lipsticks have soared in popularity since their launch, with users loving their liquid texture, matte finish and unusual colours.

But the beauty brand's best-selling product has come under fire from the FDA (The U.S. Food and Drug Administration) for containing potentially unsafe ingredients.

As if Lime Crime needed any more negative press right now...

The letter from the FDA, which was first sent to Lime Crime at the end of July but only started circulating on the internet this week, takes issue with two colouring agents listed in Velvetine lipsticks' ingredients: Ferric ferrocyanide and ultramarines.

The FDA approved the ingredients for use in "externally applied cosmetics", but not lipsticks as they can be absorbed by the mouth.

Although Ferric ferrocyanide and ultramarines score a low/moderate hazard rating on the Environmental Working Group cosmetic database, they can both be potential irritants.

In a statement emailed to Fashionista, who first broke the story, a spokesperson for Lime Crime wrote, "The Velvetines are absolutely safe to use. However, a misprint occurred on some of the labels. We are working with the FDA to correct this.

"Customer's safety is always a top priority for us. We apologize for any concern or confusion the misprint may have caused."

Zayn Malik Goes Grey: What You Need To Know About Dyeing Your Hair Silver

Zayn Malik's hair has been through almost as many changes as the former One Direction star himself over recent months.

Our first impulse upon seeing Malik's newly silver do was to question what led to the style overhaul.

But once we'd satisfied that curiosity (by deducing there are no less than six possible reasons), we started to ponder how we could recreate the look ourselves.

now it's grey

A photo posted by niazkilam (@zaynmalik) on

After all Malik is not the only celeb to go grey recently, so we have plenty of "inspiration" clippings to take to the hairdressers:

But what should you take into consideration before embracing the silver fox trend?

FOUR London's colour specialist Brooke Bohan advises that this isn't the easiest look to achieve:

"It can look totally fabulous if done professionally, but beware it is the hardest of all the colours to achieve with no damage to the hair," she cautions.

"The first step is to have a consultation so that a plan of action can be worked out with the client.

"The technique used is to bleach the hair to bring it up to almost white and then put an ash tone over it.

"Only go to a reputable colour salon as it is very easy to end up with yellow not grey and demarcation lines where the build-up of colour hasn't been properly removed."

Be warned grey hair requires careful upkeep says Hersheson’s creative colour director Sibi Bolan.

Bolan's top tip for maintaining gorgeous grey tones is to:

"Use a silver shampoo to help brighten and remove yellow unflattering tones that grey hair has a tendency to do, as often grey hair is more dry therefore absorbs things like pollution cigarette smoke dulling down the silver fox making it look like tarnished brass."

The Highs And Lows Of Online Shopping

There's a reason why the UK loves online shopping even more than the rest of the world, and it's probably the fact we get to avoid the general public.

Not to mention the great deals, no queues and next day delivery.

But where online shopping giveth, online shopping taketh away. It's just a huge rollercoaster of spending emotion out there. Here are the highs and lows we go through on a daily basis...

High: The fact that you can do all of your shopping on your lunch break from the comfort of your desk.

Low: If only you could trust the sizes.

Low: Getting the "we tried to deliver your item but you were out" card.

Low: All of that excess packaging *shudders*.

Low: When the fabric looked like silk in the picture but in real life it feels like cardboard toilet paper.

Low: Finding something you like at a great price, getting really excited. Click on it, only size left is XXS.

High: Once you know your size and the style you like, never, ever having to do jeans shopping IRL again

High: ASOS free returns

jesus

Low: Finding out you have to pay for other returns

Low: When a dress from eBay arrives and looks like a £10 jobby from one of those cheapie high street clothes shops which sells diamante shoes and knock-off pashminas.

Low: When something looks amazing on the model so you order it, but it's completely misshapen and a different colour and you look like a sack.

High: Deciding that you have to have something when you're drunk, then it turning up three days later when you've lost all recollection of ordering it.

High: You no longer have to elbow someone in the face who has just grabbed the top you put down for a millisecond.

Low: Sending something back for an exchange and it taking so long that the item sells out

Ten Reasons Not to Wear Make-Up Everyday

$
0
0
2015-08-11-1439296212-1419706-MakeupNofinal.jpg
© AB Kellow #dareyoubare

When I was 15, I wore so much makeup you could've chiselled it off with a sledgehammer and I kept that up for a good 10 years, my favourite being blue glitter eye shadow and red lipstick with rosy excess blusher (nice).

But being on a detoxifying bender of late I've looked into not only everything that goes into the body but what happens on the outside. And make-up is far grosser than a beige baby wipe dumped in the bin after a couple of Babychams...

Here are my top ten reasons to have a breakup with make-up (even just for a couple of days a week)

1- Make-up fills your pores with silicon.
A lot of make-up brands have silicon in it, which is known for its plumping benefits (mostly used in other enhancing areas of the body, ahem) but stuffing your pores everyday with silicon and other toxic chemicals can start to break down the pores and enlarge them, resulting in open pores that never shut. When you sleep the pores open and breathe, which is why it's good to make sure your face cream is the exact science of your skin so as not to cause aggravation and keep the pores in tiptop condition.

2- You're not that old (are you?)
Your young fresh teenage skin does not need tons of make-up. It really is more beautiful than you can imagine. We tend to pick out every flaw on our face then maximise it by 100. Maybe you are older? Don't hide your wrinkles, make-up only seems to get stuck in them. And as Lucille Ball said, 'the secret to staying young is to live honestly, eat slowly and lie about your age.'

3- What you're putting your face on it goes into your blood stream- quite literally!
I'm sure you've heard the stories about swallowing approximately 25 lipsticks in your lifetime (gourmet dinner a la Mac anyone?) but did you know using eye make-up remover and inhaling your perfume is just as toxic if it goes into your blood stream- coconut oil as a remover is a good alternative and a none spray perfume dispenser.

4- Make-up drains your wallet.
I once tried to watch a contour make-up YouTube video, then there was another one underneath it, and another and another... all sweetly stating to just buy these rather large quantities of make-up and then perfect sloshing the products onto your face. Well, I'm all for learning new techniques but I'd probably never leave the house because it would take me so long to master it and who cares anyway when your in a dark bar dancing under a sweaty blue light?

5- You can develop allergic reactions.
What many people find surprising in life is that they suddenly get an allergic reaction to something- whether that is bread, cream or a beauty product. The reason is because your body has taken the said harmful product for so long and the immune system automatically fought off the nasties, that it decides to pack up and have a holiday- literally! Allergies in and he's taken up full residence now!

Also anything ending with Sodium Benzoate or acid is normally attacking your skin rather than nurturing it and watch out for BHA and BHT, research has shown this contributes to major illnesses.

6- Confidence at all times?
Make-up covers a mirage of flaws, which actually aren't flaws but just a little tic that has been developed over time. I was often told I had crazy curly hair as a child and for a while I had a love affair with constant blow-dries, tongs and GHD's, until my hairdresser quite tactfully said, 'Er, your hair is breaking in half!' Now it really doesn't matter, big hair don't care! Love yourself; whatever you look like and the confidence will radiate more than any Benefit Highbeam ever will.

7- The Animals.
It can be assumed that if there is a 'Not Tested on Animals' sign it is safe. Yet some products still have animal products in their ingredients and it is often shady whether they are acquired legitimately. Researching each company is important, whilst that may sound long-winded, the thought of animals being in pain far outweighs. The same goes for food, and there are many online documentaries that show the beauty testing and cruelty in farms to our cute little furry friends. Aesop, Aveda and Charlotte Tilbury are all great brands that are natural in their resources.

8- Inner Peace.
I don't have any desire to start wearing hemp trousers and rename myself after a star but feeling peace within yourself, by not wearing make-up is a wonderful thing. I love full on glamour, hair and make-up I won't lie, but it's quite liberating going out a few times a week with no make-up on. Going make-up free take's courage and for that it is a very rewarding experience being happy without it. People will see your natural beauty. Besides, where else can you wear those oversized Audrey Hepburn glasses?

9- Time.
Time is always of the essence and although I can do a brilliant vintage cat eyeliner on the central line at a record speed of four minutes (with a few catty looks heading my way over Metro newspapers- meow) it does eat away at your schedule and time. You could be busy learning French or going to a new class or staying in bed with your partner for another scrumptious hour.

10- A little goes a long way.
I know that sounds rather odd, but by going make-up free you get used to it faster than you can say sticking-out-tongue-mascara-face. So when you do get back on the wagon you can often just use the essentials. You will also notice your skin starts clearing up on it's own, producing it's natural oils and blemishes diminishing, therefore not needing the full whack to go out and but a pint of milk. My favourite is mascara and lipstick, and that's it. Easy to take off and still got a lot of va-va-voom!

Beyoncé Vogue Cover: Writer Calls Singer's Hair 'Un-Pretty' And Receives Twitter Backlash

Beyoncé made history this week by being the third ever black woman to grace the September cover of Vogue, after Naomi Campbell in 1989 and Halle Berry in 2010.

But an editorial written about the pop star's stunning pictorial is causing some controversy.

The Atlantic writer Megan Garber published a piece titled "Beyoncé and the Politics of Stringy Hair" - stating that the singer looked "distinctly un-pretty" on her cover.

beyonce vogue

Describing Beyoncé's hair as "decidedly non-fierce" and "agressively un-done", Garber then went on to explain that she felt this was a "great thing".

“Bey and Vogue are not necessarily recommending that the Normals of the world start rocking stringy hair," she wrote, they’re making a political statement disguised as an aesthetic one.” she wrote.

“Here is Beyoncé, whose brand is strong enough to withstand being photographed with stringy hair, suggesting that, for the rest of us, the best hairdos might be the ones that don’t require all the doing.”

Not only does Garner seem to have forgotten that the wet-look hairstyle has been used in high fashion for years, but she has also overlooked the fact that Beyoncé's hair is not unkempt or unwashed, as she suggests, but deliberately styled that way.

Lots of people strongly disagree with Garner and have taken to Twitter to express their anger:

Madeline Stuart, the 18-year-old model with Down's syndrome, has just announced she will be walking at this year's New York Fashion Week.

The Australian beauty has been making waves in the fashion industry since finding fame with her Instagram photos earlier this year - she has landed two campaigns in the last month alone.

Stuart hopes that achieving her dream career will "help change society's view of people with Down's Syndrome" and lead to greater acceptance and she hopes to help quash unrealistic beauty standards in the fashion industry.

She will be following in the footsteps of American Horror Story actress Jamie Brewer, who made history earlier this year as the first ever model with Down's syndrome to hit the NYFW catwalk.

Stuart's mother, Rosanne, is her biggest champion. Speaking to Buzzfeed Life, she said: "People with Down's Syndrome can do anything. They just do it at their own pace."

"Give them a chance and you will be rewarded beyond your greatest expectations."

Herve Leger Bandage Dress 'Not For Voluptuous Women Or Lesbians', Says Company Director

One of the men behind Herve Leger's signature bandage dresses insisted Sunday that "voluptuous" women and lesbians should stay away from the skin-tight frocks.

In an interview with The Daily Mail, Patrick Couderc, the UK managing director of the fashion line owned by the BCBG Max Azria Group, unloaded a list of types of women he believes shouldn't wear the bandage dress, a red carpet favorite named for its strips of stretchy material.

His list of offenders includes "voluptuous" women, women with "very prominent hips and a very flat chest" and gay women.

"If you’re a committed lesbian and you are wearing trousers all your life, you won’t want to buy a Leger dress," he claimed. "Lesbians would want to be rather butch and leisurely."

The body-shaming, homophobic comments obviously struck a nerve among women sick of companies telling them which types of women can wear their clothes. Comedian Margaret Cho quickly slammed Couderc for his remarks and called for a boycott.

London-based author Kathy Lette, known for her feminist novels, also called out Couderc.

BCBG Max Azria did not immediately return The Huffington Post's request for comment.

The Herve Leger by Max Azria brand has released the following statement in response to Couderc's comments:

"The Herve Leger by Max Azria brand and its parent company, BCBGMAXAZRIA Group, are shocked and appalled by Patrick Couderc's comments made in the Mail on Sunday.

"BCBGMAXAZRIA Group is working in concert with MJH Fashion, the London-based licensee of the Herve Leger brand, to investigate and establish appropriate next steps.

"The statements made by Mr. Couderc are not a reflection of Herve Leger by Max Azria or MJH Fashion ideals or sentiments.
"The Herve Leger by Max Azria brand celebrates sensuality, glamour and femininity without discrimination."

Ever since news ofJennifer Aniston's secret wedding to Justin Theroux was revealed earlier this month, we've all been dying to see a snap of her dress.

Perhaps that's why the internet lost their collective cool at the photo below, posted on an Aniston Facebook fan page with the caption "You have my whole heart for my whole life #WeddingDress."

But while many were quick to share their well wishes, with the post receiving over 320,000 likes in less than a day, some were quick to point out it wasn't actually the Friends star in the shot.

Behold, proof that it's definitely not Jennifer Aniston on her special day...

Turns out, the image posted was actually a campaign shot from a bridal designer.

Although props to whoever posted it, as the model really does look a lot like Jen from the back.

The Fat Jew Instagram Star Lands Modelling Contract: Good News For Plus Size Men's Fashion Industry

Anyone with any scrolling credentials will recognise comic star The Fat Jew (aka Josh Ostrovsky) from their Instagram feeds, but what you might not know is that the 31-year-old is launching a modelling career.

Ostrovsky has made history as one of the first ever plus size male models signed to a mainstream agency.

With a 5.7m strong following to rival Insta-famous supermodels Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid, we reckon One Management's signing of the internet celebrity is a smart move.

“It’s an exciting time. The internet allows for anyone with the skill to market themselves to break into arenas where they may not have previously been able to enter,” One Management celebrity division head Jeff Schnabolk told Style.com.

Also speaking to Style.com, The Fat Jew joked: “I just want to inspire people of my size and my gender to be comfortable in their own skin, because it’s OK to have a mediocre body and very, very high cholesterol, as long as you look great doing it."

The Fat Jew has already starred in a huge campaign for Seamless (shown above), and used his social media presence to launch his own rosé wine, White Girl, and an upcoming book, “Money, Pizza, Respect.”

Speaking to the NY Post about his future modelling plans, Ostrovsky revealed he's setting his sights on an underwear campaign.

"I’d love to do briefs,” he said. “I’d love to be oiled up looking super serious. Maybe I’m on a horse, and maybe it’s raining. Maybe I’m not oiled up. Maybe I’m just on a horse, and it’s raining and I’m naturally wet. I’m soaking wet.”

But while Ostrovsky's comments may be self-deprecating, his signing by a mainstream agency is a huge step forward for plus size male models.

Plus size menswear retailer Big Dude Clothing revealed that the industry is growing 100% year on year but that it's hard finding models for his site.

Speaking to to HuffPost UK Style, the company's MD Darrell Freeman said: "The plus size industry is geared towards women and there aren't many plus size male models around at all.

"We really struggle to recruit plus size models and usually have to turn to Facebook rather than modelling agencies who are no help at all - hopefully this gives others confidence to think there is potential to model even if they are rather large.

"Plus size men should be proud of their bodies and embrace them. You only have to look at statistical figures to see that eating disorders in men are on the rise, so it’s an issue that needs to be dealt with."
