London Fashion Week Backstage Beauty Hack: Playing Cards For Bump Free Hair

$

A model was snapped backstage at London Fashion Week with an Uno card pinned to her hair.

No she wasn't playing an elaborate card game to pass the time before the Jasper Conran Spring/Summer 2016 show. As stylists know, playing cards are a valuable hair styling tool.

Metal clips can leave bumps in the hair, so to prevent unwanted marks hair stylists sometimes use cards to act as a buffer to keep the hair smooth.

This is a trick we're definitely going to be trying when getting ready for a night out.

Julien Macdonald floored us at London Fashion Week with his dazzling Spring/Summer 2016 collection.

And we weren't the only ones, as one of the catwalk models almost took a tumble, but was saved by the man of the moment himself.

Alongside cocktail dresses that had us swooning, Macdonald debuted his first ever men's collection and we're glad to say he treated the boys to just as much glamour as the girls.

Writing in a blog for Hello! magazine shortly before London Fashion Week Macdonald explained the collection was inspired by a trip to Bali.

"The collection takes you through my Indonesian journey of breath taking natural beauty, intricate textiles and colourful paintings," he wrote.

"You will see an array of bold graphic designs with opulent embellishments and glamour of course."

The collection certainly didn't disappoint in the glamour stakes - the only downside is that the outifts won't be available until after the Christmas party season.

However, Macdonald did let James Bond actress Naomie Harris get her hands on a dress from the collection before it had even been seen on the runway for her appearance at the GQ Style awards on 8 September, so perhaps if you ask him very nicely....

Bella Hadid's 20 Hour Journey To London Fashion Week After Plane 'Hits Wall' At JFK Airport

When Bella Hadid announced she was en route to London Fashion Week she didn't expect the journey would take her nearly 20 hours, after the plane she was on "hit a wall".

The London-bound Virgin Atlantic plane was grounded at JFK airport after its wing clipped a fence as it was preparing for take off on Saturday 19 September at 8.30am local time.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said there were no injuries on Flight 26, which was being pushed back from the gate by a tug when the incident occurred.

Just two hours earlier Bella had shared a video on Instagram with the caption: "Bye nyfw...sup london towwwn! on my way to uuuu!"

Luckily the model had actress Bella Thorne and her boyfriend actor Gregg Sulkin to keep her company and they passed the time by making use of massage chairs in the airport.

Other passengers on board the flight tweeted their annoyance at the hold up.

And as the hours wore on Thorne also began to lose her patience tweeting at Virgin Atlantic to complain about the delay.

Thorne went to say the airline apologised for the delay and booked her on a flight that departed JFK later in the evening on Saturday.

She tweeted to say the flight had landed in London at 8.40am on Sunday 20 September.

A Virgin Atlantic spokesperson said the incident was a caused by "a miscalculation by the tug".

"The VS26 departing from JFK to London Heathrow returned to the gate after a miscalculation by the tug caused minor damage to one of its wing tips.

"Safety is our number one priority and we would like to apologise for the delay and any inconvenience caused."

London Fashion Week Beauty Trend: Gareth Pugh Sees Spring 2016 As The Season Of Clown Chic

Those who are scared of clowns may not want to leave the house next spring if the makeup on show at Gareth Pugh's London Fashion Week catwalk takes off.

The models on the catwalk at the Spring/Summer 16 show looked more like mannequins than human beings with painted on eyes and receding clown wigs.

It was impossible to identify any of the models as their faces had been covered in gauze, which was painted on by MAC makeup artists, who covered the women's faces in large stars, beauty spots and exaggerated rosebud lips.

Speaking to WWD, MAC’s Val Garland explained that the vibe was inspired by "Donna Summer juxtaposed with Lindsay Kemp and a bit of drag queen Divine," with a “schizo disco, plastic pulp, Soho sex club,” vibe.

At the Gareth Pugh show the models' skin was prepped with MAC Pro Longwear Waterproof Foundation and Mineralise Foundation, before being covered with a nylon stocking.

Eyelids were painted on with slashes of MAC Acrylic Paint in Marine Ultra and brows were drawn in Rapid Black Penultimate Eye Liner with black acrylic paint on top. Lips were also painted in acrylic paint.

Alexa Chung sported a new tousled hair do just a few hours after models at Holly Fulton's London Fashion Week show debuted a fresh take on the bedhead look.

Chung went for the chop on Saturday 19 September after wearing her shoulder-length hair loose and wavy to the Vogue London Fashion Week party the night before.

Chung posted an Instagram photo showing her new look shortly after Fulton sent models down the runway with the back of their hair pushed up at the crown like they'd awoken from an impromptu nap moments before the show.

Vogue described the look created by hairstylist James Pecis as "the woke-up-five-minutes-ago cowlicks and pressed-against-a-pillow kinks seen on 20-something gallery girls or bookish types who stayed up too late reading."

Chung's new cut suits the trend perfectly, but can also be swept into more sculpted styles as she demonstrated while on the front row of the House of Holland show with Poppy Delevingne and Daisy Lowe later that evening.

Waists defined with a simple black belt were one of the key trends to come out of the David Koma Spring/Summer 16 show at London Fashion Week.

We love the simplicity of this style, which works equally well over a plain white shirt as it does over a geometric printed dress, and the good news is there's no need to wait for wrap-around belts to hit the shops next spring to get the look for yourself.

Simply take a long piece of black ribbon - you can get 5m of grosgrain ribbon from John Lewis for between £3.25 to £6 depending on the width you want - and wrap it around your waist a few times before neatly folding over the ends to fasten at the front.

London Fashion Week: We Ask Does #LFW Have A Diversity Problem?

$

London Fashion Week fans enjoy watching the shows for the excitingly diverse array of new styles to feast their eyes on - sadly the same level of diversity isn't often reflected in the choice of models walking the runway.

Catwalk models tend to have a very uniform look with little variation between the individuals' skin tone and body type.

london fashion week runway

Perhaps some designers and catwalk casting directors don't think the people in the audience at their shows really notice or are affected by the amount of diversity (or lack of it) on the runway.

But that certainly isn't the case, as HuffPost UK Style reporter Rosy Cherrington found out when she asked people who had seen the shows for their thoughts on the level of diversity on the catwalks. Watch the video above to hear their views.

HuffPost UK Style want to shine a spotlight on the issues of diversity and inclusivity at London Fashion Week with our #LFW4All campaign, because as HuffPost UK executive editor Poorna Bell said:

"Surely the whole point about catwalk shows which is to inspire, transcend and turn fashion into art that literally walks, is that it should not be tethered or affected by something like the colour of a person's skin?

"The main barrier to change is people giving excuses as to why this is and continuing to hide behind them.

"Because honestly, in this wonderfully diverse age, when people from all colours, sizes and orientations move more freely in the world, and when you have someone as respected as Naomi Campbell who has been modeling since the 80s saying this isn't right, then what excuse really is there to not change?"

Just when we thought we'd seen everything crazy there possibly was to see at London Fashion Week, one new catwalk trend has left people pretty baffled.

Yep, that's a bum bag worn as a crop top.

The MM6 Maison Margiela spring/summer 16 show transformed sequins into streetwear, which actually kind of worked in a weird 70s glam rock way.

Bum bags were also used in the traditional fashion too, just in case you were wondering.

London Fashion Week: Vivienne Westwood Stages 'Fash Mob' Ahead Of Red Label Spring/Summer 16 Show

Vivienne Westwood has never shied away from controversy, and when we heard the news about her turning up to David Cameron's house in a tank to protest fracking plans, we knew she'd have something special planned for London Fashion Week.

The designer held another anti-establishment protest today ahead of her Red Label spring/summer 16 show in the form of this aptly titled 'Fash Mob'.

Kitted out in head-to-toe Vivienne Westwood, the designer and a band of models paraded the streets branding signs reading "Climate Revolution," "Fracking is a crime," "Austerity is a crime" and “Politicians Are Criminals” - a campaign turned into slogan tees featured in the Vivienne Westwood Man spring/summer 2016 collection.

This isn't the first time the 74-year-old has used fashion to spread her Climate Revolution campaign message either, taking to her own catwalk in 2012 bearing a giant slogan banner.

Westwood's Red Label S/S 16 show was every inch as anarchistic, with models transformed by dystopian Mad Max-esque makeup and the Fash Mob cheering from the rafters.

How Is Digital Technology Changing London Fashion Week?

$
0
0
With fashion week season already upon us and our social media feeds filling with glimpses of the catwalk, it's a good time to reflect on how the industry is changing the way it presents itself and the relevance of live shows in a digital age.

The catwalk will always play a pivotal role in how we consume and view fashion - but it's fascinating to see how seamlessly digital technology is being absorbed into the schedules and how this is both aiding and perhaps hindering the way fashion is presented.

For the first time this season London Fashion Week has fully integrated the digital schedule with the live shows underlining its importance at LFW - and illustrating just one way in which London leads the world in this respect.

Live streaming is now seen as an almost ubiquitous part of the process - with millions of people tuning in world wide - democratising fashion in a way that would have seemed fantastical just a few years ago.  Trail blazers SHOWstudio have also transformed the way shows are discussed and dissected in tandem with live streams - so fashion followers don't even need to wait the few hours it takes for articles to be filed to get an instant reaction from a panel of fashion experts.

Digital presentations have given new designers a route into fashion week which allows them to present their collections at a fraction of the cost that expensive theatrical live shows often spiral into. This has been hugely positive for breaking new talent - and is again where London comes into its own.  Designers like Carri Munden of Cassette Playa have used digital presentations to amazing effect - attracting just as many VIPs and press to her screenings - which underlines the fact that designers no longer need to present a traditional catwalk.

As the Director of LCF's Digital Anthropology Lab (launching in October), Lynne Murray affirmed: "We no longer aspire to view or attend just another catwalk show. Fashion is ultimately about theatre, and in this digital age, when all brands have social media presence as standard, experimenting with the very way in which brands present their collections at Fashion Week is one of the most exciting developments in the fashion space. This could include designing customizable garments straight off the runway with Knyttan, or viewing virtual collections first and live with Topshop, to holographic theatre from Burberry."

This season I am particularly looking forward to LCF graduate Min Wu's digital presentation on Saturday.  Digital presentations allow for an additional layer of creativity and interaction with the audience - it demands a more varied set of skills which we cultivate and encourage here at London College of Fashion across our undergraduate and postgraduate portfolio.

As a designer you have to demonstrate that you can translate your vision through a number of filters - be it through film or live performance. Consumers of fashion use multiple platforms to view the collections and to stay relevant designers must always have this in mind.

But as designers continue to execute increasingly spectacular digital innovations, do we need to be aware of its hazards as well as its potential? Digital Disturbances - a new exhibition in our Fashion Space Gallery raises questions about the limitations and desirability of integrating digital phenomena and content into the fabric of the material world. Information can be lost, gained or distorted as it is translated from the material to the digital. Kunihiko Morinaga's label Anrealage dramatically alters our perception of clothes merely by manipulating the sizes of mannequins using computer design, and more sinisterly Simone C. Niquille has used digital technology to explore how identity can be represented on clothes to avoid detection by CCTV cameras.

Although these designer's work challenges how far we can rely on digital technologies for a realistic view, the creative opportunities of a virtual world should not be ignored.

The trick to digital according to Lynne Murray is, "to think of it as a new creative medium; using digital technologies to display collections is simply another way to present brand vision and it is a compelling new tool we are only just seeing the start of" - and I know this season will see a stronger than ever presence of innovative digital displays.

Lady Gaga wowed with a new au naturel look, as she lead a host of stars down the red carpet at Emmy Awards on Sunday (20 September) night.

The singer looked stunning as she swapped her outlandish outfits for some old school Hollywood glamour outside the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, ahead of the ceremony.

Gaga, who’s currently filming a lead role in the new series of ‘American Horror Story: Hotel’, donned a simple-but-structured black dress, with her blonde hair styled in voluminous curls and minimal make up.

The ‘Applause’ hitmaker was just one of the many big names who’d turned out for the 67th annual Emmys, which celebrate the best in US TV.

However, there were still many British stars dazzling on the red carpet, thanks to their success in shows such as ‘Downton Abbey’, ‘Game Of Thrones’ and ‘Homeland’.

‘GoT’ actors Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner turned heads in their show-stopping ensembles, while ‘Downton’ stars Joanne Froggatt and Laura Carmichael represented the hit ITV period drama, which had been nominated for a handful of awards.

The sixth and final series began airing on the same night back on home shores, before its US debut later this year.

Other Brits on the red carpet included Ricky Gervais, who was hoping to bag a gong for sitcom ‘Derek’, while Cat Deeley, who hosts US dance show ‘So You Think You Can Dance?’ turned up with husband Patrick Kielty, following their announcement they are expecting their first baby together.

Ten Things You're Guaranteed to Experience at London Fashion Week

$
0

Whether you're a first timer or a veteran, you can almost set your watch by certain little things happening every season at London Fashion Week. How many do you recognise? LFW, we love you still...

2015-09-19-1442651756-1388546-10thingsLFWcollage.jpg

1. Overdressed, over-the-top, super-pushy bloggers/vloggers barging their way to the front of the queue, name-dropping and trying to blag their way in to the show before plonking themselves on the front row. The shame.

2. Your phone battery dying just as you're about to get a totally Instagram-worthy shot at Ashish. And you left your charger at home. But of course. Schoolboy error.

3. The press lounge being monstrously overcrowded with no spare plug sockets when you only have an hour to file show copy. This kind of stress is how premature ageing happens.

4. If you're anything like me, you WILL get sick at some point. Tough love alert: take paracetomol, pack tissues and man up. It's only fashion week and it'll all be over faster than A-D Russo can click her jazzy Prada heels and scoot off to Milan.

5. You will get annoyed (read: jealous) at editors of glossies jumping in and out of chauffeur-driven cars before and after every show. Wearing this season's heel of choice. Well, because they can. Brogues for the rest of us though, yeah?

6. ...although, you'll be surprised at how many models you can spot on public transport if you really keep your eyes peeled, which sort of makes getting about London on the sweaty tube not so bad. Sort of.

7. It will rain. It will pour. It's London FFS. Yet, knowing this, you will forget an umbrella. Again. It makes no sense.

8. Propercorn and Lavazza become your new best friends. A short, sharp caffeine buzz and those salty little snacks are all you've got time for. Your raw/vegan/green juice diet goes out the window (and it's delightful for at least the first two days).

9. There will always be at least one fashion week enthusiast who has enjoyed perhaps one too many free proseccos (Scavi & Ray, since you ask) at after parties and is throwing seriously questionable shapes on the dance floor. Thank God there aren't photographers everywhere at fashion week! Oh wait...

10. You'll make tonnes of new contacts, friends, Twitter followers and have many a story to tell. LFW is exhausting and unpredictable, yet utterly enjoyable. Otherwise you wouldn't keep doing it now, would you?

And it's over. Just like that!

After months and months of planning, leading up to this whirlwind of a weekend, my mission for London Fashion Week SS16 is officially complete.

Saturday night's catwalk show was unbelievable. I am so grateful for all the hard work everybody put into it, and for all those who came down to Collins' Music Hall in Islington to support my Urban Safari collection!

I had a stellar front row and was happy to see some of my best friends' faces - Alexa Chung, Nick Grimshaw, Daisy Lowe and Nicola Roberts, to name a few - beaming with pride (oh, and my mum!) as I unveiled all of my favourite new designs for the next season.

2015-09-20-1442784646-750053-VJOaVvMpDZQsfBM7ziGCYHjZADMHojTKCrdnZavcRQ785p7wKuAldvuVpweXbEFn_CNYhsrt8bZIBnLNByFA.jpeg

On top of the clothes and accessories on display, there were a couple of surprises in store for my audience this year. Firstly, Lady Leshurr, a rapper from Birmingham, made a special guest appearance. House of Holland has been completely addicted to her song 'Brush Your Teeth'. It was pretty much the team's soundtrack as we slaved over the new collection. So who better to bring down to start my show in style?

And while we made sure to kick things off with a boom, we finished it in the same vein. I am extremely excited to finally reveal to you the magic that took place during the grand finale - especially seeing as we've been keeping much of it secret for the past 100 days!

As soon as the models came out for the last time, prompting the auditorium to erupt with applause, little did everyone know that a shopping spree was about to occur...

Prior to the show, 10 VIP guests were given special rings to wear, loaded with £500. This exclusive invitation enabled them to go up to the models of their choice and buy their favourite item, just by holding the ring against a special tag. Straight from the catwalk, right then and there!

2015-09-20-1442784564-1136183-Nlem1mV6z7KwfQ9XWhfw8x1yUIgQFavxdZFiR_q6U.jpeg

The insect-shape ring (which was delivered to my VIPs in a crazy music-playing treasure-chest, perched on top of a rotating plinth and surrounded by a terrarium of live plants. What, you'd expect anything less from me?) resulted in a transaction taking place, once tapped against super-sized leaf-themed brooches attached to the model's attire . This is due to advanced wireless connectivity technology (NFC), and it was utterly brilliant.

We presented a world-first for fashion week, actually, in fact a world-first ever I think: an actual purchase direct from the catwalk at a show.

The experience we gave our VIPs - demonstrating a proof of concept, which might one day be accessible to shoppers in the retail space - says a lot about the future of payments and how even some of the more advanced technologies we have now could become entirely redundant as convenient and beautiful wearables turn all the rage.

2015-09-20-1442784511-5838216-x1DoKVhKKdKm0zqdXTsfhA2rRrY8CaRBtWC0S13czhIOVFYWveVyVwIvtzSgqhdd_8633atqChci1q1ilcAEQ.jpeg

It all came about through my partnership with the brilliant team at Visa Europe's innovation hub, Visa Europe Collab. I can't stress enough what a fantastic time I had working with the guys on this project and I really hope we'll be able to do more things together. The world of technology and payments is moving incredibly fast and I'd love to explore more ideas in the future. In fact, they mentioned last night that a chip already exists which can essentially be tattooed on to one's skin and used to make a transaction! Pretty mind-boggling stuff.... and something to think about maybe!?

Meanwhile, take a look at the video to see how it all went down (and to spy on the items that the lucky ladies Daisy and Alexa got to take home with them):

This weekend, geek met chic in a collaboration I'll never forget. Thank you to all involved.

The New London Agency Leading the Way for Diverse Models

$

0
We are in the heady throws of London Fashion Week. In the last few seasons this has meant that each new day of the fashion calendar comes with a fresh debate surrounding diversity.
One relative newcomer to this discourse is Canadian born Londoner Nafisa Kaptownwala, the 26-year-old art history graduate who founded Lorde Inc. Models in 2014. Working with industry pioneers such as SHOWstudio, i-D and Dazed, she is fast becoming hailed as the agent who is literally changing the face of fashion.

In a wider context this is a year where we are seeing an effervescence of diversity in fashion campaigns, with the first black model in 13 years on the cover of British Vogue, Rihanna fronting a Dior campaign and Andreja Pejic a transgender model walking for the Giles Deacon AW'15 show. All unprecedented, these signify fundamental changes in the fashion landscape.

[A model is someone who is] "comfortable in front of the camera," says Nafisa in a recent i-D interview, fiercely resisting the established and restrictive culture of the physical ideal. We take a look at how her business goes whole-heartedly against the fashion grain, and how the diversity movement is transforming our perceptions of beauty.

Looking at Lorde Inc.'s website with it's soft colour palette and smiling faces, you could think that this is just another new agency finding it's way in the sea of established heavyweights. However, delving into Nafisa's media interviews and blog, it becomes clear that Lorde Inc. has an agenda over and above supplying pretty faces to the fashion industry. Her posts are a mix of sparky GIFS, invites and successful model placements which are reminiscent of an experimental fashion Zine; projecting a feisty and confident voice rather than the usual safe and investor friendly posts on competitor's sites. It is clear that the team at Lorde Inc. are infiltrating the industry with a resolutely independent attitude. They may be seen as a niche agency in the context of the bigger players such as Storm or Models 1, but with brands like Marc Jacobs using Instagram to cast campaigns; the demand for agents to supply diverse models such as those on Nafisa's books is steadily rising.

Fashion has always looked to the street for inspiration. Now, social media has opened the doors for the public to communicate with brands, and influence the decisions of the industry power players. The discontented public talk to agencies via Instagram or Twitter to exert opinions that could formerly be ignored. The most recent case being that of the Swedish model Agnes Hedengård who with a BMI of 17.5 was told by bookers that she was too 'big' to get work. Agnes received nearly four million views with her consequent YouTube campaign and gained confidence in the knowledge that many disagree with the industry standard for extremely slim models. Agencies are also using social media to appoint new talent. Gone are the days of the traditional 'new faces' interview, where aspiring models would be invited into the agency and be critiqued by measuring tape, their 'walk' and polaroid shots. These days a model can share headshots with the agency via social media, and the bookers as well as the followers, judge by clicks if she fits the criteria.

In this vein, soon after the launch of Lorde Inc., IMG Models created the #WLYG (weloveyourgenes) Instagram campaign. They encouraged aspiring models of colour, and of all ages and sizes to apply to their 'Development' section. With over 70K followers, this initiative has been well received.

Models are also moving the diversity debate forward. This seasons New York Fashion Week saw the artist and model Ashley B Chew featured in show reports wearing her 'Black Models Matter' bag, which expressed her frustration at the lack of diversity in the industry. Consequently #blackmodelsmatter became a popular hashtag at NYFW.

Using the Internet, people from all ethnicities and backgrounds are becoming more comfortable presenting their image to the world, thus challenging the mainstream notions of the beauty ideal. Together with agencies like Lorde Inc., the fashion landscape is in a state of perfect flux.

It will take time for the influences of the diversity movement to reach the most powerful fashion houses; but with advocates like Nafisa, the future for the next generation of models is looking bright.

Burberry Prorsum's spring/summer 16 collection is being hailed as the show of the season at London Fashion Week and if the celebrity guest list is anything to go by, we have to agree.

Supermodels Kate Moss, Cara Delevingne and Suki Waterhouse were joined by actress Sienna Miller on the FROW, all kitted out in stunning Burberry outfits and makeup.

Actor Benedict Cumberbatch and his wife Sophie Hunter were also in attendance (just in case you were wondering, Cumberbitches).

Think the celeb spotting was great? The clothes were even better. Plus no other LFW catwalk can boast their own personal orchestra.

Watch the incredible show in full below (thanks to ASOS)...

This blog is part of a month-long focus around sustainable fashion across HuffPost UK Style and Lifestyle. Here we aim to champion some of the emerging names in fashion and shine a light on the truth about the impact our appetite for fast fashion has around the world.

We want to be useful, in the most practical way possible, so I'm off to Lebanon with your lovely 'From a Mother to Another' packs to distribute to Syrian refugees.

After many years of questioning what makes me and others at JoJo work so hard and keep driving ourselves, I have, I think, come up with the answer from my perspective at least: I work hard, because I want to feel useful.

At JoJo:

  • We feel useful by creating good quality jobs both here in the UK and across the world in our factories

  • We feel useful because we design adorable and practical clothes and nursery products, which help make life as a parent a little easier

  • We feel useful because people seem to like working for us and stay long term, becoming part of the 'family' which means we are often able to recruit from within the business

  • We feel useful because the business has grown to a level that we can help others - by offering work experience, giving to charities and funding sustainable aid projects

And this is where the hard work comes full circle. Business leaders should concentrate on how to be more productive and efficient growing their companies for longevity. Then when funds are available, help local communities and where possible, others across the world. At JoJo we believe in "sustainable aid" - simply put, rather than donate clothes to those in need in third world countries (which leads to a culture of dependency and is a short term solution to poverty), we invest for the future. Our aid projects include education, healthcare and funding enterprises (e.g. giving micro loans for sewing machines, which will employ people locally). We uphold the ethos of helping people to help themselves through long term development.

So we are totally against mindlessly donating clothes to the third world. Those educated in aid subscribe to this ethos. Only ignorant charities give finished product to poor areas of the third world. But maybe we at JoJo must consider short-term humanitarian aid as well? It's an ethical dilemma since short-term solutions are unsustainable. But with the UNHCR having to cut back its funding per head in the midst of such a huge refugee crisis maybe it's time to overlook our principles and help where it's needed right now?

Our From a Mother to Another recycling initiative, launched last year and starting again in the run up to Mother's Day 2016, collects good quality hand-me-downs to donate to those in need in this country via Barnardo's. You, our customers were fantastic. You understood the idea to help us reduce landfill whilst doing good, and took time to donate generously. We sorted and repacked where necessary and Barnardo's have been handing packs out all year.

We've still got some packs left, but rather than sending your clothing donations to Nema, our charity in Africa, we want to help the refugees in dire need on the Syrian border in Lebanon.

So the plan is that next week I will travel to Lebanon and try to open a supply chain directly to those in need, those who cannot afford the expensive trip to Europe or pay the people smugglers hefty fees to get them in illegally. JoJo will be partnering up with Viva, amongst other charities, to make sure those who need the most help get it.

There are over 1 million Syrian refugees in Lebanon - 80% of which are women and children (whereas apparently 75% of the Syrian refugees in Europe are men). They are mostly living hand to mouth with little hope of getting back to their homes in the near future while Syria is still a war zone. These are the refugees who are in dire need and the ones we want to help. This is the most practical way we think we can be useful in this current crisis.

Thanks again for your support and please don't forget to put aside nice, warm, good quality clothing for our next From a Mother to Another collection period in the run up to Mother's Day early next year. For now we still have stocks on hand to deliver to those in need both in the UK and now in Lebanon to the Syrian refugees.

We'll keep you updated with how we get on in Lebanon and remember - hang on to your clothing donations for us, especially nice warm coats since it gets very cold in Lebanon, and we'll let you know when our stores will be collecting again.

Emmys 2015: Celebrity Beards Prove The Facial Hair Trend Is Here To Stay

Celebrities love beards, including the type you wear on your face, and this year's Emmy Awards saw a lot of fine facial hair showcased on the red carpet.

Seriously, there was some beard-lovin' going on.

Though experts have been predicting the death of the beard for some time now, their popularity is showing no sign of waning.

Today, history academic Alun Withey told The Times he believed the beard explosion was triggered by the 2013 Baftas and Oscars, when celebs like Bradley Cooper and George Clooney rocked up with some serious facial fuzz.

And we reckon this year's award ceremonies have cemented the beard as a style staple. Sorry (not sorry) guys, they're here to stay.
